Olivine Pools - Monday, July 12, 2010, 9:30 AM
The Olivine Pools were named for this semi-precious gem found encrusted in the surrounding lava and sandstone. These naturally-formed swimming pools are located on a lava shelf stretching along the coastline. When the sea is calm, the area is excellent for swimming, wading and sunbathing.  Wear reef shoes when walking on the lava.  Wear study shoes to walk the trail to the pools as it awkward and may be slippery.  Do not wear lotions or oils in the pools as it may harm tiny sea life that make these pools the    ir home.
Cost: Free

Scuba Diving / Snorkeling in Molokini - Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Will described our last Molokini dive this way.  "Molokini crater is half-submerged, allowing boats to drive into the shallow center (where snorkelers tend to congregate).  On the boat ride from Maui, we saw two whales playing right around the crater.  This was a great thing to see, but an even better thing to HEAR underwater.  Whalesong was the background music for both our dives.  (It carries for miles). A first for me and a really great accent for the dives.  Molokini diving was spectacular.  We dropped down to the sandy bottom within the crater, where a small forest of sand eels poke their heads out of the sand to catch drifting plankton.  We swam around the edge of the submerged crater, and then spent 30 minutes or so drifting and kicking around the west outer edge.  We saw plenty of coral, nice colorful fish, an eel, and a  good-sized, sleeping reef shark.  Lauren’s deepest dive ever, at a max depth of 98 feet.  Visibility was around 100 feet.  When conditions are like this, I really get the “flying underwater” feeling that drew me to diving in the first place."
Cost: Approximately $125
Please let Will and Lauren know if you are interested and more details will follow.

Olowalu Petroglyphs Expedition - Wednesday, July 14 at 10:00 AM
The Olowalu Petroglyphs are ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs (images chiseled into the rock surface) depicting humans and animals. The 300-year-old stone carvings are engraved into the face of Kilea, a volcanic cinder cone in the V-shaped Olowalu Valley. The trail follows an ancient Hawaiian route that crossed the Olowalu Valley into the Iao Valley. This area is now privately owned, and public access ends at the petroglyphs.
Cost: Free
